简短经历 Short Bio
Rebecca May Geddes is an Academic English (EAP) instructor with five years of experience teaching international learners, including Chinese learners, in classroom and online settings. She holds First Class Honours degrees at both MA and BA level, with academic training in Global Media and Communication, English Language and TESOL, and Applied Linguistics. Her MA was completed at the University of Warwick in 2024, where she received a Certificate of Achievement for an Outstanding MA Dissertation. She also holds a BA in English Language and TESOL from Swansea University, where she received awards including Best Senior Honours Student of the Year (2023).
Rebecca’s teaching and research interests include English for Academic Purposes, Second Language Acquisition, Feedback Literacy, Applied Linguistics, Global Englishes, and Language and Media Representation. Her teaching experience includes working with Chinese learners in Guangzhou, where she taught academic reading, writing, critical thinking, argumentation, and research skills and adapted curriculum materials for English-medium instruction contexts. She has also taught learners preparing for IELTS, Cambridge and Trinity examinations, as well as learners developing general communicative English.
She is particularly interested in supporting students in developing academic confidence, independent learning skills, critical thinking, and effective academic communication. Her approach combines communicative and task-based learning with structured guidance and summative and formative feedback, while adapting materials and teaching methods to mixed-ability learners and different educational backgrounds.
Her research publications include work on Brexit discourse, the representation of Indian and Jamaican English in film, and speaking activities for developing fluency.
